Something New for Orders Retreat:
Wednesday Night United Methodist Moth Hour

The Moth Hour is a radio-podcast phenomena which began as an experiment in 1997, and is now a regular feature on 480 radio stations worldwide; it is often heard on National Public Radio stations. The Moth Hour’s premise is simple: everyone has a story that others should hear. According to the Moth Hour’s website, “Moth shows are renowned for the great range of human experience they showcase. Each show starts with a theme, and the storytellers explore it, often in unexpected ways. Since each story is true and every voice authentic, the shows dance between documentary and theater – creating a unique, intimate and often enlightening experience for the audience.”

This year, we will be holding our first United Methodist Moth Hour on Wednesday evening during our Orders Retreat in Estes Park. We are looking for stories around the theme of renewal. Please note: These should not to be sermons, but stories based on real life.

For this to work within the parameters of our timeline (which is limited) and our constituents (each of whom has many worthy stories to tell), we are asking for submissions from all interested parties. Do you have a true story to tell about renewal, yours or another’s? If so, please submit a summary in 250 words or less of your story to john@fumcmissoula.com.

Deadline to submit is Wednesday, Sept. 25!

We are planning time enough for six 10-minute stories to be told, so not every submission will be able to be presented. But the selections will be based upon relevancy to the theme of renewal, diversity of experiences, and ability to communicate/translate the personal side of life. Humor is absolutely welcome; tears would not be out of place; authenticity is key; unscripted is standard.

For questions or further information, please contact Rev. John Daniels at john@fumcmissoula.com or 406-396-8966.
